Traditional Woodland Seneca Beaded Glengarry Hat

Category: Tags: , ,

Description

Glengarry hats are/were Scottish and one of the first items the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) traded for. We quickly adapted the hats by adding our “woodland” floral beading and sometimes silver brooches to the design.
Both Scott’s and all now 6 Nations of the confederacy wear Glengarry hats on occasion. This one is traditional black wool felt with dark floral designs mirrored on both sides. It also has traditional white seed bead trim and two large circle hand hammered brooches. There are twin ribbon dangles on the back and a four directions traditional silver brooch on the ribbon trim. It is a true blending of cultures. With significant meaning to both cultures.
