Council Fire set with White Wampum, deer bone and Sterling Silver

Council Fire Design set - bracelet, earrings, and pendant made with White Wampum, hand hammered silver, bone, and hand made links. The Council Fire design is a traditional Haudensaunee (Iroquois) design that has been used fo hundreds of years. This set is a contemporary take on the traditional brooches or "beauty pins" that were most popular during the fur trade era. "Wampum" is a shell that can be found in many different colors of purple, pink, black, white and ivory. It is a very hard shell and is difficult to cut and polish for jewelry settings. Wampum was a trade item during the fur trade era, however wampum was never money and most East Coast Tribes, used wampum for thousands of years for both adornment and in the weaving of "Wampum Belts" ...our way of "recording history".
