Hand hammered silver with wampum. This set represents the Turtle - Our Earth and Haudenosaunee Clan symbol. Buffalo horn, silver and wampum beads are also used in the designed of the set. "Wampum" is a shell that can be found in many different colors of purple, pink, black, white and ivory. It is a very hard shell and is difficult to cut and polish for jewelry settings. Wampum was a trade item during the fur trade era, however wampum was never money and most East Coast Tribes, used wampum for thousands of years for both adornment and in the weaving of "Wampum Belts" ...our way of "recording history".
